Maxim started taking guitar lessons with Mike when he was nine years old. At such a young
age, it can be challenging to find a way to encourage productive learning. Demanding too little
isn’t effective, and demanding too much can be discouraging. Focusing solely on technique can
be boring, while ignoring technique altogether is counterproductive in the long run.
Mike strikes a perfect balance between learning and fun, creating a well-rounded experience.
The practice songs are popular rock and country hits, which keeps my son engaged and excited
to learn. Every song he learns is recorded in a professional studio, giving him the unique
experience of playing in a real “band”; with other kids. Twice a year, the students perform in a
show, providing great motivation to practice and showcase their best work.
Through Mike's lessons, my son has made remarkable progress over the past three years. He
has gone from just starting out on the guitar to performing quite complicated solos. Importantly,
Maxim has developed a genuine interest in music. While I’m not sure if he will pursue a career
as a professional musician, as a parent, I see music as an essential part of a child’s cognitive
development. It is often said that music is the only discipline that engages both hemispheres of
the brain simultaneously, and I believe Mike’s lessons have greatly contributed to my son’s
growth.
In Maxim’s words: “I like the songs and the shows. They make my learning less tedious and
more fun, giving me the motivation to practice. The shows give me a sense of accomplishment.
The lessons are effective, they teach the basics and the more advanced things well. If you want
to try out guitar or bass, it’s a great choice to start with.”
